Suffolk County recently began issuing warnings to motorists that pass a stopped school bus. The assessment of actual fines will become effective on May 1, 2021. Fines start at $250 and will rise to $275 for a second offense and $300 for a third offense. Our bus terminals, school properties, and certain divided highways have been geofenced and removed from the enforcement of fines so that we can effectively perform pre/ post-trip inspections and loading/ unloading.
Please be advised that you cannot pass a school bus that has the stop arm deployed unless as described above. This will result in the issuing of the aforementioned fines. Tickets will be paid for by drivers as is currently being done with red light and speed camera violations.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.
